“RACE” is not only about race!

by carolyn with no comments

Itinerant Theatre is currently in rehearsals for the hard-hitting, who-dun-it play RACE by acclaimed American playwright David Mamet.  Director Joy Pace has been struck by the dilemmas which the sole female character “Susan” faces.  Susan, an intern in the bi-racial law firm of Lawson & Brown, could be treated with more decorum.  She could be given a last name.  She could be considered a female adult, rather than being called a “girl”.  Imagine if the intern were an African-American male.  Would the bosses call him a “boy”?  Nope.  Not gonna happen.  But Susan, an Ivy League grad and future attorney, one might presume, is called a “girl”.  And that is only the tip of this iceberg!

“RACE” opens 7:00pm March 21.  It runs 7:00pm March 27 & 28, and there are two Sunday matinees, March 22 and 29, both at 2:00pm.  Other info:  809 Kirby Street, Central School Ben Mount Theatre.  Tickets are $15/ $10 students.
