“Race” cast goes off-book

by carolyn with no comments

While Director Joy Pace runs the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival-6 in San Angelo, TX, the cast of “Race” readies to go off-book.  “Race”, a typically hard-hitting David Mamet play, challenges cast and crew on several levels.  There are the dominant issues of privilege, race and racism.  But then, there is the more subtle issue of sexism.  Really?  Really!  Blend racism with sexism, and you begin to understand what African-American women in our culture face on a daily basis.  Maya Manuel takes on the solo female role of “Susan”, a lawyer working as an intern in this tough play.  See Maya as Susan balance the real world issues of a minority female in a white male-dominated world.  “Race” opens Saturday, March 21.
