A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer: Writings To Stop Violence Against Women and Girls is a groundbreaking collection of monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights, edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle. “Each piece captures a spirit of being human in a series of recognizable situations, provoking empathy for those involved and heightening our awareness of why and how such things come to pass.” – Theater Review New Zealand
The New York Times called The Vagina Monologues, “Probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade.” The play, first performed Off-Broadway and since then, world-wide, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement in women’s experiences.
The concept of “V-Day” grew out of the play in 1998, shattering silence around violence done to women and girls. Tens of thousands of communities and college campuses in over 200 countries have staged benefitThursad performances of The Vagina Monologues – and other works and campaigns created by V-Day, such as A Memory, a Monologue a Rant & a Prayer. V-Day activists have changed laws, funded rape crisis centers and domestic violence shelters, raised over $100 million for groups working to end violence and to serve survivors and their families. V-Day has its pulse on issues women face across the globe.
V-Day Lake Charles/Itinerant Theatre 2018 is a local effort within the worldwide context of the 20th Anniversary V-Day Campaign. For its 20th anniversary, V-Day is calling on activists around the world to Rise, Resist and Unite.
