The Originals
During the Fall of 2010 the “Louisiana Women: Originals” company, directed by Angelique Feaster of Shreveport-based Mahogany Ensemble Theatre, performed & toured three of Carolyn Woosley’s “Louisiana Women” monologues: primitive painter and former Melrose Plantation cook, Clementine Hunter; matriarch of the Cane River colony of Free People of Color, Marie Thérèze Coincoin; and, jazz pianist, vocalist and composer, and first African-American board member of the American Federation of Musicians, Nellie Lutcher. Lake Charles-based AlterEgo Productions collaborated in this production with Mahogany Ensemble Theatre. AlterEgo Productions is the for-profit sister professional theatre company of Itinerant Theatre, Inc. Leslie Berman was producer.
