Itinerant Theatre is excited and honored to stage a reading of a classic from the canon of western drama. The classic is of course George Bernard Shaw’s “Candida”, a comedy on the clash of expectations in love. Joy Pace is Director. This is the first classic to be read by IT, and inaugurates a longterm commitment to bring the classics to the audience, up close & personal, at a fair price, on a shoestring budget, utilizing and also training all-professional cast & crew. Join IT for “Candida”, 7pm Thursday, Dec. 13, Room 313, Central School A&H Center, 809 Kirby St., Lake Charles. There will be one intermission. Refreshments will be sold.
Director Joy Pace has cast a young, professional group of actors for the December 13th staged reading of Candida by British playwright, George Bernard Shaw. The experience beefs up the resumes of these professionals, engages them in a modern classic read in a perhaps novel format (to the audience), the staged reading, and adds to the training needed to compete for jobs in two top Louisiana industries: cinema and tourism.
McNeese State U. undergrads play all roles but one. Jonathon Richards is the Reverend James Morrell; Elise Hamilton is Candida; Hayley Smith is Miss Proserpine; Ronnie Doyle is Eugene Marchbanks; and, Cameron Scallan is the Reverend Alexander Mills. In addition, Joey Frazier, Pres. of the Board of The Lake Charles Little Theatre & longtime fixture on the region’s theatre scene, plays the role of Candida’s colorful Dad, Mr. Burgess.
Join Itinerant Theatre for Candida: 7pm, Thursday, December 13, Attic Theatre (rm. 313), Central School A&H Center. $8. Limited seating. For tickets & info: this website or call 337.436.6275.
